Sushi al Crochet
Aaaahhh!
Aaaahhh! I love sushi! When it's all well done and fresh, it's delicious. Since the frst time I try raw salmon, I decided I liked better this way: without cooking, with a little soy sauce and a touch of wasabi.
Being myself a sushi-woman wannabe (I mean, I make sushi, but I'm not a proffessional) and a crochet aprentice, I thought it was a good idea to make... crochet sushi!
And so it is: one roll (maki) of egg (tamago), one of cucumber (kappa), one of tuna and another of salmon; a tamago niguiri, a shrimp niguiri, a salmon niguiri and a gunkan-maki of salmon caviar. All crocheted!
Mmmmh! :-)

I found in this site a pretty model of necklace to make. The instructions seemed a lot difficult, but in the end, it was easiest to make that I expected.
The result was good, I like very much the necklace, and I want to make one for me in other colours. (In the picture, the necklace you see is now in the hands of my friend Lily.)

Servime una cervecita...
We're back at the Amigurumi section, today with a little beer chopp that I made for my friend Martin.
It was a lot of fun to make it. The foam at the top is like a beret. It has some drops sliding down at the side.

Between aaaaaall the things you can create with a crochet needle, I choose to try crochetin with wire and various beads a little necklace.
It's not my idea, I've seen it at CraftyPod. There is a simple and easy tutorial about how to begin to work with this materials. There isn't any need of knowing a lot of crochet either. Just all you need to know is how to make a chain.
Of course, you can't use any wire... You can buy it at some bijou or mercery stores, where you can find a lot of wires of all sizes and colours. I recommend ask the saleswoman "I want a wire to crochet with it.". And with some good luck, you can buy a thin, flexible and strong wire.

I fond, thanks to Craft Magazine Blog (very recommended!) a very nice free pattern at Futuregirl's blog to make this pretty bracelets.
It as very, very easy to make, and the possibilities are endless. It all depends on the materials you can have at home or what you can buy at the specialized stores.
I already got a couple of nice buttons, keeped in my home for at least two generations (my grandmas used to sew a lot, and I inherit the old sewing box that for me is like a treasure chest); and I also had some thick thread, wich all I used to make this two bracelets, a little different from the original by Futuregirl, because the beads are all different. I crocheted it with my thinest needle (000).
The green bracelet is for my friend Merdedes, the white and lilac one for me. :-)

Collar Corazones
Meanwhile I'm learning crochet, I'm dicovering a lot of things it can be made with it (and I had no idea!).
One of them is to combine crochet and beading with wire or thread. I already test some of this techniques and the results were reasonable nice. I will publish'em when I got good pictures of them.
In the mean time, without using crochet, I made this heart necklace with beads and some thread (an lots of patience). The free pattern and instructions, courtesy of Robyn Beading. In her site, Robyn has a lot of interesting things.
The crystal and blue neklace is mine, the pale green and black one is for my friend Laura.

No quedó bonito?
Zuzu the baby fox appears at last in this site, sweet and soft, innocent but cunning, seeing it all with baby eyes.
Zuzu is made losely with the base of a amigurumi I already publish, the pomeranian dog pattern.
It has many differences, like the head is in form of a cone, the body is longer and more slim, and the tail is like... a fox tail.
What I really like about this little friend is that I used tiny safety eyes wich looks very, very good on him. He looks so sweet and innocent.
All that yarn is brushed and brushed to make it look like furry fur. Itsn't he cute?
Luckily, Zuzu is not mischievous like every fox. He's a paceful and traquil fox. He loves to smell the flowers, play in the dead leaves and look the sunsets.

Tortuguitas
I found this free pattern gratis in Crochetville, and it's very easy to make. It's special to begginers, I think.
The light blue turtle is as the original pattern tells. The only variations I made were in the other two turtles. In the green turtle I erased (or ignored) a line of increasing stitches in the head, and ignored as well the last line of increasing stitches on the shell of the smallest turtle.
The eyes, as allways, are embroidered with black thread.

The last little fruit from my basket is a water melon.
Basicly, it's a deep pink circle with a white border, folded in half. The interesting part of this fruit is the peel, made in stripes of two tones of green, with the shape of a leaf, because all sewn toghether come to make the impression of being a slice of a sweet, delicius water melon.

Sumi-E
Vean a Blueheronarts...
The japanese people have a specialization in doing (apparently) simple and easy arts and crafts but a lot difficult to make. Take as an example, the sushi.
The first time one see sushi and aknowledge of what it is made, says: "White rice and raw fish, how difficult it can be?" ". Everyone knows now that a really sushi master learn his art over years and years of hard study to be able to make those lovely bits of seaweed, rice, vegetables and fish.
Another popular art/craft from Japan is the origami. It simple, if you think of it as little tridimensional objects made from folded paper. And again: "How difficult it can be?" Try yourself to make a bird or a flower with a bit of paper...
So, we came to the theme of a japanese art wich is simply some ink strokes in paper with shap of (or better they made you the idea of) flowers, animals, landscapes...
And so, I ask myself: "How difficult it can be?"
Very, very, VERY HARD to do.
This year I start learning sumi-e, the water colour / ink drawing technique from Japan, because I wanted to put a painting in this style in my bedroom. I love arts in general, and I work painting, drawing and sculpting since a lot of time... To learn a new technique is not a bad idea (I thought), so I began. I found everything I needed: "rice" paper (a very thin paper, thin like toilet peper), special chinese brushes (some of them were a gift from my friend Laura, years ago), a bar of ink, etc. I downloaded impossible to find books (the best of them is writed in russian - I can't read that) and I began collecting every sumi-e painting it can be found in the web. I even found in YouTube a series of videos made by expert masters in this art! See Blueheronarts...
And I foun out that with a brush and two or three strokes of ink, can be done a bamboo tree, some flowers, birds, etc... and it needs years and years and years of training to be able to do that.
I will keep trying. The paintings you see here are just for training (the best I had!)

So, looking for more patterns to keep making my fruits basket, y arrived to Bittersweet's blog, where I found this free pattern to make a bunch of grapes. I had yarn in the appropiate colour, so I start working.
I made one big ball, three medium size and five small ones. I put'em all toghether (as I could).
But now I needed a leaf for my bunch. I didn't like much the original leaf (sorry, Bittersweet), beacause it didn't had the right shape. I googled photos of grape vine leafs, draw the shape (to make clear the idea) and, with the little knowledge of crochet I have, began to make the leaf.
I start with a chain of 10 or so stitches, wich will be the middle of the leaf. Then, I crocheted simple and double st, going forth and back to create the shape. I did the same thing on the other side, and presto!

¡y listo! Una naranjita para agregar a mi canasta.
(Perdon por la calidad de las fotos...)
When I had in my hands yarn with the aproppiate colour, I crocheted a little ball, embroidered a face on it, add a little green at the top... and presto! An orange for my fruit basket.
(Sorry for the low quality of the photos...)

Yoga Artistico en Plaza Plate
Flexibles las chicas, no? :-)
My second crochet fruit was this baby banana half-way peeled.
I found the pattern in this site. It was somewhat difficult to make because my yellow yarn was very thick and my white yarn very thin. Although I crocheted the white part with double yarn, I had to modificate the yellow part to make'em fit closely.
The first born -inside my crochet fruit basket- was the pear. The pattern I found in Amigurumi Girl's blog was really simple and lovely. I hadn't problems to make it (luckiky, because I was just beggining to crochet) and embrodering her face was a nice experience. That made me keep going on making crochet amigurumi fruits. :-)
I also made a twin litle pear for my friend Laura, I give it to her as a gift in Friends Day.
My fruit basket is a work in progress.
It was one of my first projects when I start crocheting.
Some fruits patterns are free and some others are original.
I will publish them one by one, in order.

Little by little, when I can have a good idea, I'm creating (from zero!!!) refrigerator magnets in form of food.
As you can see, I already made a T-bone, a green letucce, a chicken leg and an egg.
All of them are original patterns, wich I created in the moment I was crocheting. I'm not sure I can rebuild good enough to publish... If I can, I will.

Blanco, negro y peludito
The site Roman Sock (see link) has very good patterns, among them is the pattern of a little elephant wich is favourite among a lot of children I know. I did it with a very sleek wool and a 0000 needle and it become a tiny-weeny elephant!
Coming back to the doggy, it's so furry because I brushed and brushed and brushed it again and again. I don't own him anymore. I sold it.
I promise to make more...
